Go Beyond Your Comfort Zone

Go Beyond Your Comfort Zone
The comfort zone is a behavioral state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk. A comfort zone is a type of mental conditioning that causes a person to create and operate mental boundaries. Such boundaries create an unfounded sense of security.

Comfort zone has two meanings. First, it is a place where we feel secure, safe, and confident. It is a place where we seldom have to worry about embarrassment or criticism. It is a wonderful place to many people. However, the word comfort can be confusing. It usually means nice and warm and cozy. But when speaking of the comfort zone, this term can also refer to a place that is “comfortable” to us just because we know it, not because we love it.

Like inertia, a person who has established a comfort zone in a particular axis of his or her life, will tend to stay within that zone without stepping outside of it. A comfort zone can be a prison. If we refuse to move beyond our comfort zone, we never grow. We become stagnant

Moving beyond your comfort zone requires that you take calculated risks, make uncommon decisions, and put courage before comfort. You don't have to do it all at once; you can take small steps until your zone or circle becomes larger.

Not taking risks can help you avoid suffering, disappointment, fear, and sorrow, but it also causes you to avoid learning, changing, loving, growing, or really living.

Leaving your comfort zone involves the possibility of failure, but it also involves the possibility of winning, growing, succeeding, and changing your life for the better. It is not a simple or easy thing to do, but it is a thing you must do if you want to achieve a healthier sense of self-esteem.

Once you move out of your comfort zone just a little, it becomes almost addictive to find the answer to “What can I do next?” Only you will ever be able to answer that question, and that question can only be answered by moving out of your comfort zone.
It is good to enter a comfort zone once in a while, but it is dangerous to make it your home as it is sure recipe for lack of motivation to move ahead in life.

While selecting career for yourself or for your child, venture out of the comfort zone and get yourself informed of the new world. Know that people with all types of career are making good money. Know that believing that an engineer or a doctor is a sure recipe for success is a dangerous comfort zone. There are frustrated Engineers and struggling Doctors while there are happy and well established media people and satisfied and contented research scholars.

Stick your neck out. The world outside your comfort zone is large and has a potential place for everyone. Go out and find yours.
